Governor Walz has announced that 35 recipient law enforcement agencies will receive funding for a new Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education and Training (ICPOET) Grant program. The funding will assist the City of Moorhead in welcoming individuals who currently have a two—or four-year degree to transition into a law enforcement career.
The City of Moorhead Police Department will receive grant funds to support 3 officers in this program. Those interested in applying can do so online. Those accepted will be notified in August of 2024 and begin training at Alexandria Technical & Community College October 1, 2024 - February 28, 2025. While there, these officers in training will receive housing, travel, meals and be paid for their time ($25/hr).
“Law enforcement is a critical public service. We cannot keep our communities safe without trained, licensed officers – this program will help interested Minnesotans enter the profession,” said Governor Walz. “This funding is a demonstration of our commitment to support officer training and build a force that reflects the communities they serve.”
“Minnesotans deserve to feel safe no matter where they live,” said Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Commissioner Bob Jacobson. “Our goal is to provide this for them, but staffing challenges make this increasingly difficult.”
Those interested can attend an Open House/Job Fair on Monday, June 10 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Law Enforcement Center in Moorhead.
