Shelly Carlson earned her BA in Legal Assistance and her Masters in Public Administration from MSUM. She is the Criminal Justice Systems Manager at Minnesota Elder Justice Center and has served on the Moorhead Police Activities & Athletics League Board of Directors, the FM Area Foundation Women’s Fund Advisory Committee, Rainbow Bridge, and the YMCA in addition to volunteering at the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center and Trinity Lutheran Church. During her career, Shelly has provided training in 22 states, 2 U.S. territories and 4 countries on the topics of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. Shelly was first elected to City Council in 2018 and served on the Moorhead Library board, Lake Agassiz Regional Library Board, Joint Powers Board and the Metro Area Flood Diversion board. She was appointed to Mayor in February 2021, and simultaneously assumed the role of Flood Diversion Chair for 2021. She continues to serve on the Flood Diversion Board. Shelly attends Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead and, in her free time, enjoys reading, traveling, playing piano, watching hockey, playing pinochle, and spending time with family and friends. She is married to Ron and has two children, McKinnon and Jordan in addition to two fur babies, Lola and Oakley.

Matthew Gilbertson earned his BA in Biology from NDSU and MSUM and Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He practices at Downtown Chiropractic in Moorhead and is also the Director of the Scott Tobolt Foundation. He enjoys spending time with family at the lake, golfing and reading. He is married to Kim and has three children, Ashlyn, Tate and Ave and has two pets, Goldie and Winnie.

Laura Caroon earned her BA in Religion and Studio Art from Concordia College. She is the president and co-founder of Ladyboss Midwest and is a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She enjoys reading, creating, spending time on the water, camping and laughing with her family and friends. She is married to Josh and they have one daughter, Olivia.

Heather Nesemeier has spent decades building community & advocating for social justice in our local communities. She has had central roles in co-planning & facilitating three PB&J School Lunch Fundraisers, expanding the local community gardens at the Ellen Hopkins Nature Play Park, working with local teachers to bring nature, farm, garden, & prairie education into classrooms, & more. She currently serves on local boards in her free time and enjoys reading, gardening, and traveling.

Deb White earned her AAS in Business Administration at Broome Community College, Binghamton, NY, her BA in Economics and PhD in Sociology from the University at Albany. She has been a professor of Sociology at Minnesota State University Moorhead since 2000 and coordinator for NEW Leadership Northern Lights, MSUM since 2001. She is also a member of the Moorhead Planning Commission (2011 - 2015). She is married to Rob Kupec and has one son, Quinn.

He is employed as a Freelance Technical Writer and Program Manager for Razor Consulting Solutions. Steve Lindaas earned his B.A. in Physics and Mathematics from St. Olaf College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Physics from Stony Brook University. He is a professor of Physics and Astronomy at MSUM. He enjoys the outdoors (hiking, biking, camping, cross-country skiing, canoeing), Food (growing and cooking), Music (mandolin, singing, guitar) and Sports (running, soccer, basketball). He is married to Alison Wallace and has two children, Jakob and Maija (proud Spuds!).
