Congratulations to Zachary Gruver! On Monday, September 22, the Moorhead City Council and Mayor Shelly Carlson presented him with the MoorHeart award.
Zachary, a Minnesota State Trooper and Moorhead High School graduate, has been selected for his extraordinary courage and selflessness in the line of duty.
On September 17, 2024, Zachary responded to a life-threatening situation involving a local teenager in a malfunctioning vehicle traveling at speeds over 100 MPH. Nominated by Trisha Feldt, Zachary was recognized for his calm, decisive actions that ultimately saved the young man’s life.
“He stayed calm, cool, and collected while helping this young man,” Trisha shared. “That composure undoubtedly saved his life.”
In a moment of incredible bravery, Zachary instructed the teen to crash into the back of his own patrol car, risking his own safety to bring both vehicles to a stop. His quick thinking and fearless response turned a potentially tragic situation into a story of heroism.
Zachary’s dedication to protecting others and his unwavering commitment to public safety make our community a safer place. For all he does for Moorhead—and especially for his courage and composure—the MoorHeart selection committee is proud to honor him with this award.
Congratulations, Zachary Gruver, and thank you for embodying the true spirit of Moorhead!
The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within our City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from local artist Dennis Krull especially for this purpose.
Information on nominating individuals/organizations for the MoorHeart award can be found at www.moorheadmn.gov (search MoorHeart Award). Contributions large and small are worthy of nomination!
