Community organizer Bill Bartholomay receives MoorHeart award

Post Date:08/14/2023 7:00 pm

Congratulations to Bill Bartholomay! On August 14, the Moorhead City Council and Mayor Shelly Carlson presented him with the MoorHeart award.

Bill is committed to selflessly serving the Moorhead community through his work with vehicles; he is well known as the driving force behind Moorhead Cruise Night. He encourages everyone in Moorhead to find unique ways to help fellow community members. Bill’s nomination includes the following excerpts:

“Bill has been a champion for anyone looking for some advice or help. Moorhead Cruise Night is as fantastic and fun as it is because Bill is behind all of it, getting it all together to ensure a fun and safe way for the community to come together and spend some quality time outside. Borrowing trucks, helping setup stages and tents, moving sandbags, and leading when people need it…they aren’t easy tasks he’s helping with, but Bill does them with a smile. He was featured in the Forum for his efforts to find, fix up, and donate a vehicle to a nursing student at M|State Community and Technical College. The woman is raising seven children on her own and had just settled in after fleeing Liberia. She could no longer get to work because her old car had stopped running, and Bill took it upon himself to find her a car, lead M|State students toward the common goal of fixing up the car, and finally, when restoration was complete, the students and Bill gave the woman the vehicle so she could get herself and her family around the community.”

For all Bill does for Moorhead – and especially for the way he goes out of his way to make others’ lives better – the MoorHeart committee chose Bill to receive the MoorHeart award. Bill is a great example of the MoorHeart spirit.

The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within our City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from local artist Hudi Kobrinsky especially for this purpose.

It's easy to nominate individuals/organizations for the MoorHeart award. Contributions large and small are worthy of nomination!
