The Moorhead Police Department received a report from the Minnesota State University Moorhead Public Safety that a stack of FAKE $100 bills was reported stolen from a National Guard recruiting table on campus Tuesday afternoon. The "movie prop money" was being utilized as a demonstration tool showing college cost savings by joining the National Guard. While providing free T-shirts to students, it is believed that one stack of $10,000 was stolen by an unknown individual. The Fake money resembles real currency to the extent of size and initial appearance. The fake money can clearly be differentiated from real money by many security features, writings, and general feel of the paper. The actual stack of money that was taken is shown in the attached photo containing serial numbers JB00000000T.
Police caution consumers and businesses when receiving $100 bills individually or more likely upon larger purchases with the increased risk of someone attempting to pass them along with real currency. It is unlawful for anyone to pass, or attempt to pass, fake currency. Anyone that receives, or has knowledge, that may assist in this investigation is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.
