Moorhead Human Rights Award Winners Announced for 2025

The Moorhead Human Rights Commission is pleased to announce Human Rights Awards to 4 recipients in recognition of their significant contributions to human rights in our community in 2025.

Recipients are:

Erienne Fawcett in the Education category. Erienne is the Coordinator of Gender and Sexuality at Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Diversity and Inclusion Office.

Michelle Webber in the Non-Profit category. Michelle is the Pastor at the First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Tyler Strand in the Education category. Tyler is a College Social Worker at Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

Kavitha Gundala in the Non-Profit category. Kavitha is the Assistant Director of Housing and Operations at Jeremiah Program Campuses.

Here are excerpts from the winners’ nominations:

Erienne Fawcett is a mentor of mine that I met through the Rainbow Dragon Center and Women’s Center at MSUM. Erienne has spearheaded the growth of the MSUM Women’s Center and Rainbow Dragon Center and increased attendance at ODI programs. She has partnered with several student organizations to build and maintain these communities at MSUM.

Michelle Webber supports those in need every day through her support of their church’s food pantry and fostering the community meals program at her church. Michelle offers support and service to the LGBTQ community to include those in ND who have been under attack. Service and compassion are what she offers, every day in all her actions, she is truly a Human Rights advocate of the highest and best kind.

Tyler Strand works daily to meet the needs of the students that attend the Moorhead M State campus. Tyler coordinates and maintains the Campus Cupboards. Tyler oversees grants such as the one that Supports Parents/Pregnant Student Initiative. Tyler works to bring food, supplies, and support to all students at M State campus.

Kavitha Gundala was nominated for her outstanding dedication to housing equity, community service and refugee resettlement in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Kavitha has devoted more than a decade of her career to affordable housing, working across LIHTC properties, permanent supportive housing, and public housing. Her compassion extends beyond her profession. Kavitha has led “Narayana Seva” a volunteer group that prepares and serves home-cooked meals to local shelters.

Awards were presented by the Moorhead Human Rights Commission at the Moorhead City Council Meeting on Monday, December 8. Congratulations to the 2025 Human Rights Award Winners!
