On Sunday, April 9, 2023, the Moorhead Police Department partnered with the Moorhead Fire Department and the MN Fire Marshal's Office to investigate a suspicious fire in a multi-unit apartment building that occurred in the 900 block of 23 Avenue South. The fire occurred in the suspect's apartment and caused extensive damage. No one was injured; however, the fire displaced all building residents. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
Sean Ahrenholz is suspected of starting his unit in the building on fire. He is currently in custody at the Clay County Correctional Facility. A long-form complaint will be forwarded to the Clay County Attorney's Office requesting Felony First Degree Arson charges.
