On Thursday, May 19, 2022, Investigators with the Moorhead Police Department executed a search warrant in the 900 block of 7 Avenue North, focusing on Torres and Lopez for the distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms possession. One suspect, Richard Torres, was taken into custody earlier today during a traffic stop and was in possession of a stolen firearm. Due to the severe risk of danger to law enforcement and the public, the Red River Valley SWAT Team made entry into the residence. The residence was secured without incident. During the execution of the search warrant, ammunition and other firearms materials were located. The narcotics investigation is ongoing.
Torres and Lopez are currently in the Clay County Correctional Facility, facing charges of felony possession of ammunition and firearms. The Moorhead Police Department was assisted by the Cass County Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration - Fargo, ND Office, and the Red River Valley SWAT Team.
Today's incident is the first situation in Moorhead since mutual aid has been re-established with our North Dakota partners. It displayed the importance of being able to work together and share resources to provide the highest level of service and safety for our community.
