At 12:02 pm on Tuesday, July 20th, 2021, the Moorhead Fire Department was dispatched to a fire in a two story home at 710 12th St N, initially reported by a resident walking in the area who noticed the smoke. Crews arrived to find smoke and fire in a kitchen on the second floor and a victim in close proximity to the fire. In conjunction with fire extinguishment, an adult male was removed from the residence by firefighters who began treatment for life-threatening injuries. The victim received initial treatment on the scene and transported by Sanford Ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. His current status is unknown.
The Moorhead Police Department simultaneously evacuated a day care provider and several children from the first floor of the house that was serving as a home daycare center. There were no smoke or fire conditions present in the daycare at the time and there were no associated injuries. The Moorhead Police Department assisted the daycare in successfully reuniting all children with their parents.
Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area of the second floor with additional smoke and water damage on the second floor and water damage on the first floor. It is unknown if and when the daycare will reopen at that location. Initial building and property damage estimate is placed at $8,000. The home is currently being used solely as a daycare. No residents were displaced due to this fire. The fire is currently under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s office who may be reached for future updates at (651) 201-7200.
