Remember to "Bee" friendly when cleaning up yard waste

Post Date:04/15/2021 9:37 am
Many pollinators overwinter in dead plant material, and by removing this material, you may risk destroying these pollinators. A healthy pollinator population is essential for our well-being.

Here are a few helpful tips:

• Bees may nest in dead or dying trees and branches. Leave these in a pile until late spring.
• Other beneficial insects like butterflies and ladybugs may nest in piles of leaf matter. Consider leaving these piles or moving them to another location in your yard until late spring.
• Plant a diversity of native pollinator-friendly plants to enhance habitat for bees.
• Wait until temperatures are consistently above 50 F to clean up your yard.
