“In response to rising incidences of hate speech, hate violence, and social inequities, the Moorhead Human Rights Commission will be holding an ongoing series of community conversations. Candid conversations about race, hate speech, and discrimination are meant to inspire courageous dialogue and lead to direct action in an equitable and healing space. We wish to provide an opportunity for citizens to express love and provide help against hate through engaging with a complex variety of topics in an effort to inspire thoughtful leadership on current social justice issues.” Cani Aden, Human Rights Commission Chair.
To comply with COVID-19 public health recommendations, the June 24 Moorhead Human Rights Commission meeting and the July 1 Listening Sessions will be held using virtual meeting technology. The Human Rights Commission Chair and Vice Chair will be present in the City Council Chambers along with some city staff. Other Commissioners will participate remotely. Please note that a quorum of Human Rights Commission will be present at 4:30 pm on June 24 to test the equipment prior to the start of the meeting.
June 24, 5 pm Moorhead Human Rights Commission Meeting details:
As part of the meeting on June 24, Moorhead Human Rights Commission will be conducting a Civil Rights discussion, providing an opportunity for public testimony. In the interest of time, the discussion will allow for 15 citizens to speak to the Commission for 3 minutes each. Those citizens wishing to address the Commission must register prior to the meeting and have the capability of joining the online meeting via Webex. Citizens to speak will be chosen on a first come, first served basis.
