It Bears Repeating: Sump Pumps - time to discharge outside

Updated with specific neighborhoods of concern

Post Date:03/31/2020 4:29 pm

UPDATE: This message was released yesterday, but there are still system capacity concerns citywide, and especially for the following neighborhoods:  Allyson Parkway and Angela’s Additions, Americana Estates, Westmoor/Village Green (south of 30 Ave) and the river corridor from 10 Ave N to Tessa Terrace, west of 11 St. Please do your part to prevent backup. Thanks!

Residents are reminded it's time to disconnect sump hoses from the sanitary sewer. Drainage should be directed out to the street, backyard or side yard (please be courteous to your neighbors when choosing where to discharge). Sump pump discharges to the sanitary sewer during this time period creates a risk of overloading the sanitary sewer system and basement back-up for you and your neighbors.

Residents may request a seasonal waiver to allow sump discharge into the sanitary sewer from November 1 - March 31. Because the risk of significant rain events is lower during this time, the sanitary sewer system is capable of handling this extra water. That's not the case in the spring and summer months.

If you have questions on sump pump discharge, please let us know. We appreciate your cooperation to ensure the capacity of our wastewater treatment. Thank you!
