Moorhead Burglary Arrest

Post Date:12/01/2019 4:35 am

On November 30 2019 the Moorhead Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of 12th Avenue and 17th Street South. A pickup truck had struck an unoccupied vehicle. A witness to the crash called 911 and later reported that a driver fled the scene on foot. The witness was able to provide a clothing description of the driver. The driver attempted to flag down a responding Officer who was in an unmarked patrol vehicle. The driver recognized the squad as it drew closer and fled from the Officer who attempted to detain them.

Additional Officers set up a perimeter and were able to track the driver’s footprints in the fresh snow. The driver had fled and entered a residential garage a short distance away. Moorhead Police requested assistance from a West Fargo Police K9. The K9 was deployed and alerted to the male who was hiding in the rafters of the garage and he refused to surrender. Negotiations and opportunities for the male to surrender peacefully were unsuccessful. A pepperball launcher was used to deliver irritant to the rafter area where the individual was concealing themselves. The pepperballs were unsuccessful in gaining compliance from the individual. A more concentrated irritant was delivered from a handheld canister which proved to be effective. The individual came down from the rafters and was taken into custody. He was treated at the scene by FM Ambulance and later medically cleared at a local hospital prior to being transferred to the Clay County Jail. The Moorhead Police Department was assisted by the Clay County Sheriffs Office along with the West Fargo Police Department.

The individual taken into custody was identified as 25 year old Adriel Jordan Lewis of Fargo ND. He is being held pending formal charges from the Clay County Attorneys Office on 2nd Degree Burglary, fleeing on foot, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and obstructing the legal process. There is no additional threat to public safety at this time. There is no further information available at this time. The male had not completed the booking process as of this press release so there is no current photo available.
