Vehicle Stolen by Suspect with a Hatchet

Post Date:08/22/2019 5:19 am

On 8/22/19 at approximately 1:32 am, Moorhead Officers were dispatched to the area of Main Avenue and 5th Street South after the victim reported his vehicle was stolen by a male who threatened him with a hatchet.  The victim was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot when the suspect entered his vehicle and asked for a ride.  When the victim refused, the suspect brandished a hatchet and threatened to hit him with it if he didn't do what he was told.  The victim ran out of the vehicle and called the police as the suspect stole his vehicle.  The victim was not injured.

Approximately 10 minutes later, Officers located the unoccupied stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the 500 block of 32nd Avenue South.  A hatchet was located inside the vehicle.  A Fargo Police K9 attempted a track; but, the suspect was not located.

This was a stressful event for the victim that occurred very quickly.  At this time, the suspect is described as a white male, approximately 20 years old, wearing blue jeans.  It's possible he was not wearing a shirt.

The Moorhead Police Department will follow-up on leads and physical evidence to identify and apprehend the suspect.

The Moorhead Police Department is grateful for the assistance offered by the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Fargo Police Department.
