Fire Damages North Moorhead Four-plex

Residents from all four apartments were displaced by the fire.

Post Date:05/05/2019 3:09 pm
At 12:02 pm on May 5th, 2019, the Moorhead Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1205 12th Ave N, a two-story, four-unit apartment building. Crews arrived to find a large volume of fire and smoke on the deck and south side of the building lapping up into the eaves. Residents had evacuated the building. The main body of fire was extinguished at 12:23pm, but crews worked for an additional hour to fully extinguish smaller fires and smoldering spots in the attic and other portions of the building. Natural gas and electrical service were disconnected for safety reasons. There were no injuries, but residents were displaced from all four apartments due to heavy smoke and fire damage in the second floor and significant water damage on the lower level. The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents. One of three cats was removed from one apartment at the time of the fire. The two remaining cats were found without injury after the fire. No initial damage estimate was available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
