Busted by the Bus Returns

Post Date:04/19/2019 8:00 am

As part of the MN Towards Zero Deaths grant funded distracted driving enforcement campaign, members of the Moorhead Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the MN State Patrol, will be riding in a school bus looking for distracted drivers along 8 St S. in Moorhead. Squads will be stationed along the route to make contact with drivers who were witnessed violating distracted driving laws. Officers will be in the bus both April 22 and April 29.

During the 2018-2019 school year, 110 school bus violations have been turned into the Moorhead Police Department. Both law enforcement and the school district want drivers to be aware of their surroundings near schools and around school buses.

Distracted driving education is a component Minnesota’s core traffic safety initiative, Toward Zero Deaths (TZD). A primary vision of the TZD program is to create a safe driving culture in Minnesota in which motorists support a goal of zero road fatalities by practicing and promoting safe and smart driving behavior. TZD focuses on the application of four strategic areas to reduce crashes — education, enforcement, engineering and emergency trauma response.

Media: Law enforcement and school staff will be available both days. A ride along will be possible, but please contact Capt. Swenson in advance.
