Public Comment Period Begins for 2016 Action Plan Amendment

Post Date:06/09/2016 8:23 am
Following a public comment period and subsequent City Council action on July 11, 2016, a recommendation regarding this amendment will be forwarded to HUD for their consideration and approval. All citizens are welcome to submit comments at any time during the public comment period or at the public hearing.

Summary of Proposed Amendment

Homebuyer Education – change in program delivery: The purpose of the proposed amendment is to appoint a new subrecipient to Homebuyer Education, an existing activity approved in the 2016 Annual Action Plan. The program instructs consumers on the home purchase process: what they can afford in a home, how to qualify for a mortgage, and how to be a responsible homeowner. The Village Family Service Center is no longer offering homebuyer and tenant education courses due to changes in their staffing levels and areas of focus. It is proposed that this activity be carried out by Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership. They will be using Home Stretch, through the Minnesota Homeownership Center, a Minnesota Housing and HUD approved course.

Financial – A total of $9,600 is proposed to be redirected from The Village Family Service Center to Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership.
